Where can Metro Vancouver homeowners see German kitchen cabinets in person?
From September, at 1420 Marine Drive in North Vancouver. Canadian Home Style is rebuilding its showroom floor around the Bauformat line, and the first kitchens will be open to walk through rather than viewed as sample panels on a wall.
Who makes Bauformat cabinets?
Bauformat cabinets are built in Germany by a family manufacturer operating since 1917. Production is based in Löhne, in the North Rhine-Westphalia region of Germany.
What changes on the showroom floor?
Floor space is being reconfigured so homeowners can open doors and drawers, compare finishes side by side, and see full runs rather than sample panels. A sample panel shows a colour. A full run shows whether the reveals line up, whether the handles align across a wall, and how a door feels on its hinge after it has been opened a few hundred times.
Why does that matter before buying a kitchen?
"Homeowners kept telling us the same thing," said Soheil Jalali of Canadian Home Style. "They wanted German cabinetry, and they wanted someone local to stand behind it. Buying a kitchen from overseas and hoping it all comes together is not a plan. In September they will be able to open the drawers, feel the hinges, and deal with a company that has been on Marine Drive for decades."
